S. S. Road Builders

We spend most of our time out on the roads rather than sitting inside. S. S. Road Builders is based out of Hiranandani Garden in Powai, right near the hospital and across from the Bank of Baroda. Our address at 61 Princeton Main Street is where we keep the main office, but the real work is usually done in the sun with a lot of dust and heavy machinery. Construction is a tough business and it’s never as clean as people think. We deal with asphalt, concrete, and a lot of grumpy drivers who hate roadwork. It is a lot of coordination to get the rollers and the workers in the right place at the right time. The area around Hiranandani is usually very polished, so we have to be careful when we are working there. We have a lot of meetings about schedules and equipment repairs. Our boots are always dirty, and someone is usually complaining about a machine breaking down. It isn't a job for people who like to stay cool and clean. We take our lunches wherever we can find a bit of shade. The office is mostly for the paperwork and the phone calls that never seem to stop. We’ve been around this part of Powai for a while, so we know the streets pretty well. It’s just hard, practical work that involves a lot of sweat and long hours under the sun.
