Our office is tucked away in the Saraf Building, which is number 7 on Dr. B. Ambedkar Road in Parel. If you know this part of Mumbai, you know it’s a mix of old buildings and new skyscrapers. Our building is one of the older ones, so it has a lot of character, even if the stairs are a bit narrow. We handle jewellery and watches here for Reliance Jewellery Watches Pvt. Ltd., but it’s more of a back-office and distribution setup than a shop where you’d walk in to browse. The rooms are filled with desks and a few heavy safes where we keep the items. Most of the staff has been here for a long time, so we all know how the daily routine goes. We start the day by going through the logs and seeing what needs to be sent out to the different retailers. Parel is a very busy area, so there’s always something happening outside. You can hear the buses and the local trains if you listen closely. We usually bring our own lunch from home and eat together in the small break area. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we are too busy to worry about that most of the time. We aren't trying to impress anyone with a fancy setup. We just focus on keeping the inventory straight and making sure the watches and jewellery get to where they are supposed to go. It is just regular work for us.
