You’ll find Reliable Pen Makers over at unit 17 in the Mungekar Industrial Estate in Goregaon East. It’s a busy industrial pocket, so there is always the sound of machinery and trucks coming and going. We’ve been making pens here for a long time, and the place definitely looks like it. There are boxes stacked up and the smell of ink and plastic is just part of the atmosphere now. It’s not the quietest place to work, but we are used to the hum of the machines. Most of the guys here have been on the floor for a decade or more, so they know exactly how the equipment behaves. Sometimes a machine jams or we run low on a specific color of plastic, and we just have to figure it out on the fly. We don’t really have a front office as such; if you come by, you’ll probably just find us in the middle of a production run. Goregaon East has changed a lot with all the new buildings, but this estate stays pretty much the same. It’s a practical spot for what we do. We just focus on making sure the pens write well and the orders get packed up correctly for the distributors. There’s no big secret to it, just showing up and doing the work day after day. It keeps us busy and the bills paid, and that is enough for most of us working here.
