Ravikiran Embroidery

Our little shop is tucked away in Bandra West, inside the Narayan Duble Chawl. If you know the Sahar area or Raidongri, you know it can be a bit of a maze with all the small lanes and people moving about. Ravikiran Embroidery has been part of this community for a long time. It’s not a big factory, just a few of us working with needles and thread every day. The space is tight, and we have bags of colorful thread stacked up to the ceiling in some corners. You can hear the hum of the machines and the sounds of the street outside coming through the door. We spend a lot of time hunched over fabric, making sure the patterns look right. It’s detailed work and it can be hard on the eyes, but it is what we know how to do. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit and talk until it comes back on. Our customers are mostly local folks or people who heard about us from a neighbor. We don’t have a website or anything like that. We just do the embroidery work that comes our way. The floor is usually covered in little bits of thread and cloth scraps by the end of the day. It’s a busy life here in the chawl, but we like the rhythm of it.
