We are based at 173 3 in Kalbadevi. Anyone who knows Mumbai knows Kalbadevi is one of the busiest, most packed places you can find. Rajesh S Agarwal Co is the name we use, but we are a small operation. The stairs up to the office are a bit steep and narrow, so you have to watch your step. Once you’re inside, it’s a lot quieter than the street downstairs, luckily. We have a few desks squeezed into the room and some old cupboards where we keep everything filed away. It’s dusty because of all the traffic outside, no matter how much we clean. We don't really do anything for show. The furniture is old and the tea we make on the little stove in the corner is probably the best thing in the office. Most of our day is spent talking to people on the phone or dealing with the deliveries that come through. It’s a bit chaotic at times, especially when two or three people show up at once and there isn't enough space for everyone to sit. But we make it work somehow. We’ve been here a long time and we know the rhythms of the market. It’s just a regular day-to-day business trying to keep up with the pace of Kalbadevi. No more, no less. We just keep our heads down and get the work done as best as we can every single day. Even when it is raining hard outside we are usually here.
