If you know Mumbai, you know Lamington Road is the place for electronics. Our shop, Raj Electronic, is inside the Kalpana Building at Plot 2/3. Shri Ganesh Bhavan is the bigger landmark most people use to find us. It’s crowded here, especially in the afternoons when the shops are all open and people are carrying boxes everywhere. We have a small counter and a lot of stock piled up behind it. Usually, there are three of us working. It gets pretty hot inside during the summer months, even with the fans going. We spend most of the day testing circuits or handing out components to people who come from all over the city. The building itself is old, so the stairs are a bit narrow. We’ve been in this spot for years now. Sometimes we grab a quick lunch from the stalls downstairs and eat while we work. There’s always someone asking for a part we might have tucked away in a corner. It’s not a quiet job. The noise from the street is constant. We try to keep things organized but it’s hard when new shipments arrive. Most of the other shopkeepers around here are our friends. We lend each other tools sometimes. It’s just how things work on Lamington Road. No big office, just this counter and our tools.
