Rainbow Jariwala

You can find Rainbow Jariwala at 211/A, Kika Street in Gulalwadi. If you know this area, you know it’s famous for all the traditional work that goes on in these narrow streets. We’ve been here for a long time, working with zari and threads every single day. The shop is small and packed from floor to ceiling with different materials. It’s a bit of a maze inside, but we know exactly where every spool is kept, even if it looks like a mess to someone else. Kika Street is always crowded with people and handcarts, so getting deliveries in and out can be a bit of a challenge most mornings. We don't have a big sign out front, just the name above the door that’s faded a bit over the years. Most of our work is done by hand or on small machines that have been in the family for ages. It’s a bit noisy when everything is running, but we are used to it by now. We don't really use a computer for much; most of our accounts are still written in big paper ledgers with a pen. It’s just the way we prefer to do things. We aren't interested in becoming a big factory. We like the detail work and the fact that we can see every piece before it goes out. People come to us because they know we’ve been here forever. It’s a simple life on a busy street.
