We are R. V. Agrawal Silversmith, located at 70 Zaveri Bazar on the first floor. We’re right across from Hotel Bhagat Tarachand, which is a good landmark because the smell of food often drifts up to our workshop. Zaveri Bazar is a world of its own, very busy and full of jewelry shops. We focus on silver work. It’s a craft we’ve been doing for a long time. The workshop is small and can get quite noisy with the sound of hammers and polishing machines. It’s not a fancy jewelry boutique with carpets and soft music. It’s a place where work actually happens. There’s dust from the silver and tools scattered on the benches. We make things by hand mostly. Sometimes our fingers get stained or sore, but that's part of being a silversmith. People come up the stairs to see what we’re working on or to bring in something for repair. We don't have a big marketing plan. Word of mouth has always been enough for us. Being on the first floor means it’s a bit quieter than the street level, but we still hear the shouting of the vendors below. We just keep our heads down and focus on the silver. It’s a traditional way of working that hasn't changed much in years. We’re just local smiths trying to do a decent job with the metal we have. It is what it is.
