We are based over at Chinch Bunder on Meenakshi Koil Street, in room 402. Being near the docks and the port area means we are always surrounded by the smells and sounds of the shipping industry. It’s a gritty part of Mumbai, but it’s where all the action is for us. Our office is up a few flights of stairs and it’s usually filled with the sound of old fans and paper shuffling. We deal with a lot of shipping documents and coordination for cargo moving through the port. It’s a lot of waiting for customs and checking on boat schedules. Sometimes the paperwork gets overwhelming, but we just take it one pile at a time. The street outside is always blocked with heavy trucks and people moving crates, so getting to work can be a bit of a challenge. We have been in this location for many years, so we know the local loaders and agents pretty well. We don't use much high-tech equipment, just the basic stuff to get the job done. It’s a small operation, and we prefer it that way because it lets us keep a close eye on every shipment. There’s a lot of history in these old buildings near the harbor. We just try to keep things moving so that the goods reach where they are supposed to go without too much delay. It’s a long day, but seeing the ships come and go makes the work feel real and important to the city docks.
