Oswal Book Mfg. Depot

The shop is located at 193, Abdul Rehman Street, which is a very busy part of the city. There’s always someone shouting outside or a cart being pushed past the door. Inside here at Oswal Book Mfg. Depot, things are a bit more focused, though it’s still quite crowded. We make books—mostly notebooks and registers that people use for their businesses or schools. There are stacks of paper reaching up to the ceiling in the back room. It’s a narrow space, so we have to be careful when moving things around. I spend most of my day at the desk near the front, dealing with the guys who come in to pick up orders. We’ve been at this address for a long time. The walls are a bit yellowed, and the ceiling fan makes a clicking noise that I’ve stopped noticing. We use a lot of glue and thread, so there’s always a faint scent of binding materials in the air. It’s a family thing, really. My uncle started it, and I just took over when he got too old to manage the stairs. We don't have a fancy showroom. If someone wants to see what we make, I just pull a sample off the shelf. It’s honest work, and it keeps us busy from morning until the street gets quiet at night. I like the routine of it. We just make sure the pages are straight and the covers are on tight.
