Our office is in the Vaitarna Building, room 203. It’s right across from the Chinese Flora restaurant in the Deepak Nagar area of Worli West. People usually find us by looking for the restaurant first since their sign is a lot bigger than ours. Being an NGO, we don't have a lot of money to spend on fancy office decor. We have some plastic chairs, a few old wooden tables, and stacks of papers everywhere. The building is a bit older, and the lift works most of the time, but we usually just take the stairs to the second floor. We spend our days talking to people from the community and trying to help out where we can with local issues. It’s not glamorous work. Sometimes it’s just about listening to someone’s problems or helping them fill out a form. The staff here is small, mostly volunteers who live nearby and care about the neighborhood. We hear the noise from the restaurant across the street during lunch hours, which usually smells like fried garlic. It’s a busy part of Worli. We don’t have a big marketing budget or a professional spokesperson. It’s just us in a small room trying to do something useful for the folks around Deepak Nagar. We stay open late sometimes if there’s a big project going on, but usually, we wrap up when the sun goes down and the street lights come on outside our window.
