Nilanj Optics

Our shop is at number 2 in Nityanand Chawl. We are in Gao, Bhandup West, which is very close to the railway station. Being near the station means there is always a crowd. People are constantly rushing to catch their trains. Nilanj Optics is a small place. We have been here in this chawl for quite a while. It’s a simple shop with glass counters and rows of frames on the shelves. We do eye testing and sell glasses. The space isn't very large, but we make it work. Sometimes the shop gets full if more than three people come in at once. Because we are in a chawl, the atmosphere is very local. We know the neighbors and the people who have shops next to us. It can get quite noisy with the trains passing by so close. You can hear the announcements from the platform if you listen carefully. We spend our days helping people pick out frames that fit their faces. We also fix broken spectacles when we can. It’s honest work. We don’t have any fancy decorations. It’s just a practical shop for people in Bhandup. We keep the mirrors clean and the floor swept. It’s a humble place, but it's ours. We see a lot of regular faces who have been coming to us for years and years. That’s how it is at Nilanj Optics near the station every single day.
