About National Marine Engineering Works – Engineering in Mumbai
Our place is called National Marine Engineering Works. We are located at 1, Welfare Villa, right on Plot No. 52, Road No. 4 in Sion East. It’s a bit of an old-fashioned building, but it has plenty of character and history. Being in Sion means we are pretty central in the city, though the traffic on the main road can be a total nightmare during the rush hour. We work on a lot of different marine parts here, often things that are greasy or rusted from the sea. It’s heavy work and everything in the shop smells a bit like sea salt and machine oil. The office is inside the villa, and it’s a bit cramped with all the manuals, blueprints, and spare parts we keep around on the shelves. We’ve been here for a long time, and the walls are covered with old calendars and hand-written notes. It’s not a corporate setup at all. We mostly talk to captains or ship managers who need something fixed as fast as possible. There’s usually a pot of tea going somewhere in the back room. Sometimes it’s quiet, and other times we’re all running around trying to find a specific tool that someone misplaced. We don’t have a big flashing sign outside, so you have to look for the plot number. It’s a steady life, working with our hands and making sure the engineering side of things is handled correctly. We just stay focused on the tasks.
