Our workshop is down on Pipe Road in the Kurla West area of Mumbai. We are in the Mig Colony, building 1, room 15. It’s a bit of a gritty place because we do marine engineering work, which involves a lot of heavy metal and engine parts. You’ll usually find us covered in a bit of grease or soot by lunchtime. We spend our days fixing things that go on boats and ships, so there are always large components taking up floor space. It’s a noisy environment with the sound of grinding and welding often echoing off the walls. The air smells like salt water and diesel most of the time. We don't have a polished front office; you just walk straight into the work area where we are busy with the tools. It’s a lot of physical labor and sometimes things don’t fit quite right the first time, so we have to go back and adjust them. We've been at this Kurla location for a good while now, and we’ve seen the neighborhood change quite a bit around us. We just stick to our routine of checking engines and repairing gear. It’s not the cleanest job in the world, but it’s what we know how to do. When the day ends, we just wash up, lock the heavy doors, and head home like everyone else.
