Narmada Colours P Ltd is right in the middle of the Opera House area, on the 4th floor of Sanghrajka House. 431, Dr. D.B. Marg is a busy spot, and the building has that old Mumbai feel to it. You have to take the lift up, and it’s one of those older ones that sometimes makes you wonder if it’ll stop between floors. Our office is dedicated to colors, so you might see samples and charts lying around on the desks. It’s a bit of a contrast to the gray streets outside. We’ve been in this building for quite a while now. It’s not a massive factory—those are elsewhere—so this is where the main planning and sales happen. It can get pretty loud with the traffic noise coming up from the street, but you stop noticing it after an hour or two. We have a small staff, and most of us have been working in the pigment and color trade for a long time. There’s a lot of talking to customers on the phone and checking if the shade matches what they wanted. We don't have a mission statement on the wall or anything. We just try to get the orders right and make sure the accounts are balanced at the end of the month. It's a simple, practical way to run a business. We like being in Opera House because everything is nearby, even if the parking is a nightmare.
