Sakinaka is a loud place to have a shop, let me tell you. We are located at 7 Guru Kripa Niwas, and the traffic outside is just non-stop from sunrise to sunset. You can hear the rickshaws and the trucks all day long. Nandu started this place because he wanted something of his own, and it’s just grown from there. We have all sorts of things, from plastic toys to more fancy-looking vases that people buy for housewarmings. The shop is a bit tucked away, so you have to look for the sign near the entrance of the building. It’s not a modern showroom with air conditioning; we just have a couple of sturdy fans that do their best to keep the air moving. We get a lot of workers from the nearby offices coming in during their lunch break or after they finish their shifts. They usually want something small to take home for their kids. We spend a lot of time rearranging the shelves because things get moved around by people looking through the stock. It’s an honest way to make a living. We don't have fancy computer systems for billing, just a simple book where we write things down. Sometimes the power goes out in this part of town, so we keep a few candles and a torch handy under the counter just in case. It’s just a normal shop in a very busy part of Mumbai where everyone is in a hurry.
