Mumbai University

You can find this branch of Mumbai University over at the Jam Mill Compound. We are in Building Number 3, Room 32. It’s right on Dr Ambedkar Road in the Lalbaug area. Lalbaug is a famous part of Mumbai, especially during festivals, so it gets incredibly busy around here. The compound itself is an old industrial space that has been repurposed for various things. Our office is pretty straightforward. It has high ceilings and big windows, though they are a bit dusty most of the time. We handle various university matters here. There are a lot of wooden cupboards filled with old registers and documents. People come in and out all day asking for directions or looking for specific forms. It’s a bit of a maze if you aren’t familiar with the building layout. We don’t have a fancy reception area. You just walk in and someone is usually there at a desk. The sound of the traffic from Ambedkar Road is always in the background. It’s just a functional space for the university to have a presence in this part of town. We’ve been here in Lalbaug for quite a while, and the staff knows the local tea stalls pretty well. It’s a very grounded place to work. No one is trying to impress anyone; we are just here to do the administrative stuff that needs doing for the students and the city. It is just one of those old Mumbai spots.
