Megatel System

Mahalaxmi Market is in Bhandup West, and it’s always crowded. Our shop, Megatel System, is tucked in there among all the other businesses. It’s a small space, like most shops in Mumbai markets. We deal with systems and electronics mostly. There are wires everywhere and boxes stacked in the corners. It’s a bit cramped, especially when we have a few people waiting. The fan overhead hums all day but it doesn't do much against the Mumbai heat. We spend a lot of time looking at screens or fixing small parts. People come in with all sorts of problems with their gadgets. Some are easy to fix, some take all day. The market outside is a constant stream of people and noise. You get used to it after a while. We eat our lunch quickly because someone always walks in right when you open your tiffin. It’s a fast-paced place. We don't have a big sign or anything flashy. People just know we are here in Mahalaxmi Market. Most of our day is just handling repairs and talking to customers about what’s wrong with their tech. Sometimes we have to explain things a few times because the tech can be confusing, but we don't mind. We just take it one customer at a time. It’s busy work, but it keeps us going. By the time we shut the shutters at night, the whole market is finally starting to slow down.
