The hostel is located at 30-M in Bandra West, right across from St Joseph Convent. It is a big building that has seen a lot of people come and go over the years. We stay pretty busy here at Manuel Gonsalves Working Womens Hostel because there are always things to fix or rooms to get ready. Managing a place where so many people live means there is never a dull moment. You have the morning rush when everyone is trying to get out the door for work, and then it gets quiet for a few hours. The location in Bandra is great because everything is close by, but it can get noisy with all the traffic and people outside. We have a routine for cleaning and checking the kitchen, and we try to keep things running as smoothly as we can. The convent across the road is a good landmark for the residents when they are explaining where they live to their friends. We have some old wooden furniture in the common areas and the floors are that tiled style you see in older Mumbai houses. It feels like a real community once you get to know the faces. We just focus on keeping the place safe and making sure everyone has what they need for their stay, whether they are here for a month or a year.
