Being out here on Buddha Ashram Road in Vile Parle West means there is always the smell of fuel and the sound of engines in the air. It’s a big, drafty space where we keep the machinery. Most of my time is spent checking over logs or talking to the mechanics who are covered in grease and oil. It’s not like a normal office job at all. We have a small area partitioned off with some old chairs and a desk where I handle the paperwork. The salt air from being so close to the coast means we have to keep a close eye on everything so it doesn't get rusty. Ramdas Nagar is a busy area, but once you get inside the airport gates, things feel a bit different. I’ve been working around these hangars for a long time now. It’s noisy and sometimes the rain leaks through the roof when the monsoon hits hard. We don’t have fancy uniforms or a polished lobby for people to wait in. You just walk in through the side door and find someone who isn't busy. We spend a lot of time just waiting for weather reports or parts to arrive.
