We are located at Old Hanuman Lane, which is one of those tight spots where you really have to watch where you’re walking. Our office is No. 17, up on the 3rd floor of Jasraj Bhavan, 64-A. It’s a typical old Mumbai building, a bit cramped but it works for us. Maksons Chemtex is basically just a few of us handling chemical and textile trade stuff. The stairs are narrow, and we carry a lot of samples up and down throughout the week. You can usually find stacks of fabric swatches or small bottles of dyes sitting on the desks. It’s not the quietest place, since the lane outside is always packed with people and carts. We spend a lot of time talking to suppliers and checking the quality of what’s coming in. It’s practical work. We don’t have any big slogans or anything like that. We just show up, check the mail, and handle the orders. Sometimes the power goes out for a bit, so we just wait it out or work by the window light. It’s a bit messy with all the papers and catalogs, but we know where everything is. We’ve been in this building for a good while now, and the neighbors all know us. It’s just a small office in a busy part of the city, keeping things moving along.
