Maksells Hardware

Our place, Maksells Hardware, is located at Plot No. 138 in the Dimand Building. If you know Lohar Chawl, you know how crowded it gets. It is a maze of shops and people everywhere, but that is the charm of it, I guess. We’ve been squeezed into this space for a long time. The building is old and the stairs are a bit narrow, so moving heavy crates up and down is always a workout. We deal with all sorts of hardware supplies, from simple stuff to more specific electrical fittings. Most of the time, the shop is full of boxes waiting to be opened. We don't have a big showroom; it’s more of a warehouse feel where everything is stacked high. Customers come in and out all day, usually in a hurry. We try to help them find what they need, but sometimes it takes a minute to dig it out from the back. It’s loud out on the street with all the carts and scooters, so we usually have to shout a bit to be heard. We don't do any big promotions. We just open up in the morning and stay until the shutters go down at night. It’s a grind, but we like the energy of the market. Working in Lohar Chawl means you have to be quick and you have to know your stock by heart. We just do our thing and try to keep the regulars happy. There is always work to be done.
