Maheshkumar Bhavanishankar & Co has been around Kalbadevi for a long time. Our place is in Maithri Layout, number 256, which is very close to the Juma Masjid. If you know Kalbadevi, you know how packed the lanes get. It’s a whirlwind of people and carts every single day. We handle a lot of traditional business stuff, mostly paperwork and accounting things that have been the same for years. The office still has that old wooden furniture that’s been here since before I took over. It feels solid, even if it creaks a bit. We don't have air conditioning, just the big ceiling fans that do their best in the summer heat. Most of our clients are people who have known my family for decades. They come in, we sit down, have some water, and talk about the numbers. It’s not a fast-paced corporate environment. We take our time to make sure the entries are right. Sometimes I look out the window at the crowds going toward the mosque and wonder how much the area has changed since the old days. Not much, really. The traffic is worse, but the vibe is the same. We don't do any advertising. People just find us by word of mouth or by seeing the old sign outside. It’s a quiet life in a loud neighborhood, and that suits us just fine. We just keep the books and stay out of the way.
