We deal with diamonds every day, but it’s not as glamorous as some people might think. Much of our time is spent looking through magnifying loops at small stones or talking to other traders in the market. The office is small and we have to be very careful with security, so it isn't the kind of place where you just wander in to browse. We have been here for a long time and have built relationships with many of the other businesses on the street. It’s a traditional way of working where a person’s word still means something. We don't have a big fancy showroom with bright lights and velvet cushions. Instead, it’s a practical workspace where we sort, grade, and trade. Sometimes the market is slow and we just sit and wait for news, and other times it’s a whirlwind of phone calls and transactions. Kalbadevi is a noisy place, and the sounds of the street are always in the background. We are just a small team of people who know our stones and work hard to keep the business going. It’s a tough trade sometimes, but we enjoy the challenge. We’ve stayed at this same address because it’s where the heart of the diamond district is.
