At 42, 2nd Bhoiwada in Bhuleshwar, things are always moving. It’s a bit different from the other lanes around here, but it still has that same frantic energy. Our office is a single room with a high ceiling and a lot of shelves that go all the way to the top. We have to use a ladder to get to the older files. The floor is concrete and has a few cracks in it. We have two big fans that stay on all day because it gets stuffy with all the stock piled up. Our desks are covered in notebooks and pens, and there’s always a pile of mail that needs to be sorted through. We spend a lot of time on the phone or typing out emails on the two computers we have. It’s not a quiet place to work because of the shouting and the bells from the street, but you stop noticing it after an hour or two. We drink tea twice a day, usually brought in from the stall just down the road. The door stays open most of the time to let some air in, even if it brings in the dust too. We don't have any fancy signs or decorations, just the name on the door and a lot of work to get through before the sun goes down.
