You can find Kuber Gem Importers Inc. over at 342 Panchratna, which is right in the heart of the Opera House district. If you’ve ever been to this building, you know it’s a maze of small offices and very tight security. That’s just part of the deal when you’re working with gems. Our office is small, but we’ve managed to fit everything we need inside. There’s usually a couple of us hunched over desks with magnifying glasses, looking at stones for hours on end. It’s quiet work, and it can be a bit straining on the eyes, but we’ve been doing it so long that it feels normal now. We don't have any big displays or fancy decorations. It’s mostly just safes, desks, and a lot of bright lights so we can see what we’re doing. The building is always full of people rushing around with small parcels, and there’s a certain kind of tension in the air that you only find in the diamond market. We go down to the street for a quick snack or a tea when we can, but mostly we stay tucked away in our room. It’s not a glamorous lifestyle, even if the things we handle are beautiful. We just take it one stone at a time and try to keep up with the market, which seems to change every single day. We are just ordinary people doing a very specific job.
