Kailas Engineering Works

Our workshop is located at unit 106 in the Ajay Service Industrial Estate, right on the Airport Road in Santacruz East. It’s a big grey building with lots of different units inside. You can hear the planes taking off all day long because we are so close to the airport. The space itself is quite large with high ceilings, but it’s filled with machines and metal parts. The floor is concrete and it’s usually got a bit of grime on it, which is just part of the job. We don’t have a fancy office upstairs; our desks are just tucked into a corner near the main door. There’s a lot of noise from the machines when they are running, so we usually have to shout to be heard. We don't have a professional cleaning crew, so we just sweep up the metal shavings ourselves at the end of the day. It’s a practical environment. We have a small area where we keep our lunch boxes and a kettle for making tea in the morning. The light comes in through some windows near the top of the walls, but they are a bit dusty. We don’t have a big sign out front, just the unit number on the door. It’s a place for hard work and we don't try to dress it up. Most of the people around here are doing the same thing as us, just running their small shops and getting things out the door.
