You’ll find us on the 10th floor of Parekh Market. It’s right across from Kennedy Bridge in the Opera House area. The building is old and has that specific smell of old paper and city dust. Being on the 10th floor gives us a bit of a view, but mostly we’re just looking at the work in front of us. This part of Mumbai is where everything happens for the jewelry trade. The streets below are always jammed with cars and people. We’ve been in this spot for years, and not much has changed in the way we handle things. We have a small team, and we all sit fairly close together. There’s a lot of back and forth, checking on things, and making sure the books are right. It’s a very traditional way of doing business. We don’t use a lot of fancy technology unless we really have to. Most of the work is done with our hands and eyes. The office gets a bit noisy during the day with the phones ringing and people coming in for meetings. We usually have some snacks around 4 PM to keep us going until the end of the shift. It’s a straightforward operation. We don’t try to be something we’re not. We’re just a bunch of people working in an old market building, trying to do an honest day’s work.
