We are located in room 1003 of the Panchratna building at Opera House. Anyone who works in diamonds in Mumbai knows this building. It’s always crowded, the elevators are always slow, and there’s a constant hum of people talking business in the hallways. Our office is just one of many, but we’ve made it our home. It’s a tight space because real estate here is so expensive, but we make it work. Every desk is covered with papers, lamps, and loupes. We spend most of the daylight hours looking at stones. It’s tedious work but it’s what we know. The area outside is chaotic, with tea sellers and couriers running around everywhere. Inside, we try to keep things a bit more organized, though it’s hard when things get busy. We’ve been here long enough that the furniture is a bit shaky and the paint could use a fresh coat, but nobody really minds. We’re more interested in what’s happening on the sorting trays. It’s a family-style atmosphere, where everyone knows everyone’s business. We don't have a marketing team or anything like that. Most of our people have been with us for a decade or more. We just show up, do the grading, and handle the sales as they come. It’s a busy life in a busy building.
