Irshad Auto Garage

Working here at Irshad Auto Garage in Gopal Compound keeps us busy from morning to night. We are right next to the Maharashtra Mutton Shop in Union Park. It is a noisy area, especially with the Chembur Sion Koliwada traffic nearby. We deal with a lot of grease and oil every single day. Cars come in with all sorts of problems. Some need a quick fix and others stay for a week while we wait for parts. We have tools scattered around but we know where everything is. The floors are never really clean because of the engines and the leaks. We spend most of our time under hoods or checking tires. It gets very hot in the afternoons under the metal roof. Sometimes we grab a tea from around the corner to stay awake. The neighbors at the mutton shop are good people and we see them every day. It is a practical life for us. We don't have a fancy office or any polished furniture. Just the garage and the cars. People drop off their vehicles and we tell them when to come back. We try to be honest about what is wrong with the engine. It’s hard work on the hands and they stay stained. We stay open until late usually. There is always one more car to look at before we can close up. The compound is usually full of spare parts. We just do the work that comes our way and keep things moving.
