India Abroad Newspaper

We’ve been running the newspaper office here on Mahim Vidyapeeta Road in Ashoknagar for a while now. It's a busy spot. Most days, it's just us trying to keep up with the latest stories and getting the paper ready for the printers. We don't have a huge team or some fancy glass building. It is mostly desks piled high with notes and coffee cups that probably should have been washed yesterday. People around here know us because we've been in the neighborhood long enough to see the shops change names and the trees grow tall. We look at what’s happening far away but also what’s right in front of us. It is hard work sometimes, staying up late to finish an edition or dealing with the noise from the street outside. But we like it. The local chai guy knows exactly how we take our tea and that helps during the long shifts. We aren't trying to be the biggest outlet in the country. We just want to make sure the news gets out. Some days the phones don't stop ringing and other days it's quiet enough to actually hear yourself think. We just keep showing up every morning, unlocking the door, and getting back to the headlines. It’s what we do. If you walk past Ashoknagar, you’ll see our sign. It's nothing special, just a place where we put words together and hope they matter to someone reading them over breakfast.
