Hansraj Lalji Masalawala

We are located at 15, Shree Raj Rajeshwari Apartment in Narayan Nagar, which is in Ghatkopar West. Our family has been in the masala business for generations, and Hansraj Lalji Masalawala is a name many people in this neighborhood recognize. We don't have a big shop on the main road. Instead, we work out of this apartment space where we keep everything organized. It gets a bit crowded with all the containers and the weighing scales, but we have a system that works for us. Living and working in Ghatkopar means we see a lot of the same people every week. They drop by the apartment to get their monthly supply of spices. We don't do any big advertising. We just rely on the fact that people like what we make. Sometimes the building hallway smells like roasted cloves, and you can tell exactly where we are without looking at the door number. It’s a humble way to run a business, but it keeps our costs down and let’s us focus on the quality of the powder. My son helps with the heavy lifting and my daughter keeps the accounts in a big ledger book. We don't use computers much, just our hands and our noses to make sure the mix is right. It’s just a small family operation doing what we’ve always done.
