Guru Tutorials is tucked away in Kandivali West, at 3-A. It’s a modest place where we hold classes for local students. The rooms are filled with basic wooden benches and whiteboards that always have a few stains from old markers. We don't have air conditioning in every room, so the ceiling fans are usually spinning at full speed during the summer months. It gets quite loud when the classes change over and everyone is talking in the hallways. Kandivali is a crowded neighborhood, so there is always the sound of rickshaws outside. We focus on the subjects that the kids find difficult in school. There are stacks of old textbooks and photocopied notes piled up in the corners. It is not a high-tech learning center with tablets or fancy gadgets. We just use pens, paper, and a lot of explanation. Sometimes the parents come in to talk about their kids' progress, and we sit on the few plastic chairs we have. The lighting is a bit dim in the back corridor, but it works fine for what we need. We’ve seen many groups of students pass through these doors over the years. Some of them still stop by to say hello when they are in the area. It is just a simple neighborhood tuition center where we try to help out with the syllabus. I spend most of my time just making sure the schedules are right and the rooms are clean enough.
