Root Tutorials

I run Root Tutorials out of a room in Dharavi. Specifically, it's Room No 4, Block No 11, Row N. We are right by the Madin Masjid. It's a crowded part of Mumbai, as everyone knows. The space is small, but we make it work. I’ve got some benches and a whiteboard. It gets quite hot in the afternoons, but the fan keeps the air moving a little. This area, the New Transixt Camp near Sion, is always full of life. You can hear kids playing outside and the calls from the masjid. I’ve been teaching here for a few years. It’s not a fancy academy with air conditioning or computers for everyone. It’s just a place to sit and learn. I try to help the students as much as I can with their books. Sometimes the power goes out, and we just use the light from the door. It’s honest work. My family lives nearby too. I don't spend money on flyers. Parents just talk to each other and bring their kids over. I’m usually here until late evening. The walk from the station isn't too long if you know the shortcuts. Dharavi has a lot of energy, and I like being part of it. We don't have a receptionist or anyone like that. If the door is open, you can just walk in and ask for me. I usually have some tea waiting on the small side table.
