Good Luck Kumkum Works

Our place, Good Luck Kumkum Works, is tucked away at 58 Raooat Tahera Street, right at the 7th Cross in Bhawani Nagar. If you know the Sandhut Road area, you probably know how narrow some of these lanes can get. We spend our days surrounded by bright reds and oranges. It is the kind of work that leaves your fingers stained by the end of the shift, no matter how careful you try to be. Making kumkum is an old trade and we just keep it going here in this small corner of the city. There are usually sacks of raw materials sitting by the door and the sound of small machines humming in the background. It gets hot during the summer months but we just open the doors and keep moving. Most of the people around here are regulars who have been coming to this street for years. We aren't trying to do anything fancy or modern. It is just about getting the color right and making sure the packets are filled properly. Sometimes the delivery guys have a hard time finding the 7th Cross because the signs aren't great. But once you find us, you’ll see we are just a simple group of people working hard. It’s noisy and messy sometimes but it is our life and we wouldn't have it any other way. We just try to get the work done before the sun sets over the crowded buildings.
