Girish Kidarnath Optics Pvt Ltd is tucked away in the Indra Bhavan Building. We are at 3 9 on Dadi Santook Lane in the Dhobitalao area. If you know Mumbai, you know how narrow and busy these lanes get. It’s an old building but it has a lot of character and we have been here for quite some time now. Most of the day is spent looking at frames and lenses or talking to people who come in because they can't see as clearly as they used to. The light in this shop is actually pretty good for the kind of work we do. Dhobitalao is a place where you see all sorts of people walking by every minute. We don't have a big fancy showroom, just the space we need to store the optics and do our jobs. I usually have tea with the guy from the next shop over in the afternoons when things quiet down. Keeping things organized in a small space like this is a challenge but we manage it. It feels good to be part of the community here. The address sounds complicated but once you find Dadi Santook Lane it is pretty straightforward. We are just regular people trying to provide something useful to the neighborhood. It’s been our home for a long time and I don’t see us moving anywhere else soon. We just keep the shop open and do our best every day for the locals.
