Gifts R Us

Our shop is at E-4/297 on Charni Road, and being near Central Cinema means we get a lot of people stopping by after they finish watching a movie. It’s an old part of town, so the buildings have that specific look and feel to them. The space isn’t very wide, so we have to use every inch of the walls to hang things up. You might find toys for kids, or maybe some clocks and photo frames if you look closely. Sometimes the trains going past Charni Road station make the floor vibrate just a little bit, but you get used to it after a few days of working here. We don’t have a website or anything like that. We just open up in the morning and stay until the last show at the cinema is usually over. My uncle started this place, and he still comes in to sit behind the counter sometimes, though he mostly just drinks tea and chats with the regulars now. It’s a lot of work keeping track of what people want these days. One week everyone wants a certain type of doll, and the next week it’s something else entirely. We just try to have a bit of everything so nobody leaves empty-handed. It’s a noisy, busy spot, but it’s home for us. We just keep the glass cases clean and hope the rain stays out during the monsoon season. We aren't doing anything special, just selling gifts to the local crowd.
