George Philips Medical Engineering

George Philips Medical Engineering is situated in the Additional MIDC area of Anandnagar in Ambernath. We’re at B/ 46. Being out in an MIDC means we’re surrounded by other factories and workshops, so it’s a very industrial environment. We work on medical machines and engineering parts, which means there’s a lot of tools and metal bits scattered across our workbenches. It’s not a sterile laboratory like you might see on TV. It’s a real workshop with the smell of grease and the sound of machines running. We spend a lot of time taking things apart and putting them back together to make sure they work the way they should. Ambernath is a bit of a commute for some of us, but we’ve gotten used to the train ride and the walk to the industrial estate. The office part of our building is small and mostly filled with manuals and technical drawings. We don't have much time for fancy stuff because there’s always a machine that needs fixing or a part that needs to be made. Most of the guys here have grease under their fingernails and know their way around a toolbox. We just focus on the engineering side of things and let the rest take care of itself. It’s a busy, noisy place but we like the challenge of figuring out how to fix something that’s broken. It keeps us occupied all day. The building itself is just a regular concrete block, but inside there’s a lot of knowledge about how these machines actually work.
