Our workplace is located at 1/21 Peru Chawl on Gas Company Lane. If you know Lalbaug in Mumbai, you know how tight the streets can get. It’s a very traditional spot. We are right in the middle of all the action. The gas company lane is always busy with people and small trucks moving stuff around. Being in a chawl means we are close to everyone else. There’s no big glass window or air-conditioned lobby here. We just have our space where we manage the infrastructure side of the e-commerce business. It’s a lot of logistics and making sure the tech is actually working on the ground. The walls are thick, and you can hear the sounds of the city all day long. Sometimes it gets a bit noisy when there’s a festival nearby, but that’s just part of living and working in Mumbai. We’ve got a few computers squeezed onto old wooden tables. We don’t really care about the decor much. As long as the internet works and we can track the packages, we are happy. The tea lady comes by twice a day, and that’s usually when we take our only real breaks. It’s a grit-and-grind kind of place. We don’t put on any acts for visitors. You see the piles of wires and the stacks of hard drives exactly as they are. It’s just a honest day’s work in a crowded part of town. We finish up when the last delivery is logged and the gate is shut.
