Free India Restaurant

Free India Restaurant is tucked into the ground floor of Vithal Niwas on Dr E Moses Road. We are right in the Mahalaxmi area of Mumbai, specifically near Jacob Circle and Sat Rasta. If you know Mumbai, you know this part of town never really stops. There is always the sound of taxis and the general hum of the city right outside our door. Our restaurant is small and a bit old-fashioned, with tiles that have been there for years. We open up early because the workers in the area need their tea and breakfast before they start their long shifts. The kitchen is a tight space, but we have a system that works for us. It gets really hot in there, especially in the humid months, but we are used to it by now. Sat Rasta is a busy junction, so we get people from all walks of life stopping in. Some are just passing through, and others have been eating here for decades. We don't have a lot of space for people to linger, so it’s mostly about getting your food and heading back to whatever you were doing. The building, Vithal Niwas, has its own character and we try to keep our part of it as clean and tidy as possible. It’s just an honest place to get a meal in a very busy part of the city.
