Famous Gems

Our little spot is at 14-C, Chowpatty Terrace, on Morvi Street. Being so close to Chowpatty means we get that salty air coming in through the windows, which is a nice change from the stuffy city streets. Famous Gems isn't a massive showroom; it is more of a workshop and a small office space where we sit and look at stones all day. We have these big tables where we spread everything out under bright lamps to see what we are doing. It can be quite tedious work, staring at small details for hours, but we have been doing it for so long it feels natural now. The building is one of those older residential ones that has businesses on the lower floors. Sometimes the neighbors’ laundry is hanging out nearby, and you can hear families going about their daily business. We do not have a big marketing budget or a fancy website. Most people find us because they know the area or they have heard about us from someone else. We drink a lot of coffee to stay sharp, especially in the afternoons when the heat makes you want to take a nap. The walk to the beach is short, so sometimes we go there after we lock up just to clear our heads. It is a quiet life on Morvi Street, away from the worst of the Mumbai rush, and we quite like the pace of it. We just focus on the gems.
