The office is down in Girgaum, specifically at 7 19 Kalyan Building on Khadilkar Road. This is the old part of Mumbai, so the streets are narrow and the buildings have a lot of character. Ernst Young Pvt Ltd has been based here for quite some time now. You can really feel the history of the neighborhood when you walk down the lane. There are small shops selling all sorts of things right outside our door. The Kalyan Building is an older structure, so the ceilings are high and the rooms stay a bit cooler than those modern glass buildings. We do not have a lot of fancy furniture, just the stuff we have gathered over the years. Some of the chairs squeak a bit when you move, but we are used to it. The sounds of the street come in through the windows—the temple bells, the vegetable vendors, and the scooters zooming past. It is a lively atmosphere to work in. We usually have our lunch together in the small back room. It is not a corporate headquarters; it is more like a local fixture in the Girgaum area. Most of the local shopkeepers know us by name now. We like being part of this old part of the city. It has a soul that you do not find in the newer suburbs. We just do our work, watch the world go by from Khadilkar Road, and keep things simple. It is a good way to work.
