Our workshop is located at B-6 in the Kothari Compound, right on Tikuji Ni Wadi Road in Manpada. If you are familiar with Thane, you know the area well. We have about five acres here, which sounds like a lot, but once you fill it up with heavy food equipment and raw metal, it starts to feel much smaller. At Economode, we spend most of our time welding, cutting, and putting together machines that other people use for their food businesses. It is a noisy environment with the sound of grinding and metal hitting metal. The air usually smells like iron and machine oil. We have a team of guys who have been doing this for years, and they can pretty much build these things with their eyes closed now. It is not a shiny corporate office. We have grease on our hands and sketches pinned to the walls. When the monsoon hits Thane, it gets really loud on the tin roof, and we sometimes have to shout to hear each other. We deal with a lot of spare parts and custom orders that take a lot of patience to get right. It’s just about building stuff that works and making sure the pieces fit together like they should. We take our lunch breaks together under the fans and then get back to the welding. We aren't trying to be fancy, just trying to stay busy and finish the work.
