Chaukhat

Chaukhat is our little place in Andheri West. We are over at 480/ B in the Gulmohar Chs building. It’s on New Link Road, right in that Samartha Vaibhav Lane area near Tarapur Tower. Mumbai is a fast city, and this neighborhood is no different. We see a lot of people from the nearby offices and the apartments in Adarsh Nagar. The space isn't very big, so we have to arrange the tables tightly. It feels a bit like home, or at least that’s what people tell us. We don't have a big corporate team running things. It’s just us and a few helpers. We spend a lot of time in the kitchen making sure the prep work is done right. The traffic on New Link Road is always loud, but once you step inside, it gets a bit quieter. We don't use fancy names for our dishes. They are just what they are. Sometimes we run out of ice or the soda machine acts up, but we deal with it. It’s a practical place for a meal. We aren't trying to be a five-star hotel. We just want to serve food to our neighbors in 400053. People stop by after work or on their way to the mall. We keep the doors open and the fans on. It's a simple life running a restaurant here. We have some plants by the window but the Mumbai heat usually gets to them. We just keep replacing them and keeping the place going.
