Chand Dye Works

Down in Antop Hill, specifically in the Sanjay Gandhi Colony area of Sector 31, is where we do our work. We are located quite close to the Hari Temple, which is a good landmark if you are trying to find the place. Our days are mostly filled with the process of dyeing fabrics, so there is always water and color everywhere. It’s a messy job, and our hands are rarely clean, but that is the nature of working with dyes. The colony is a tight-knit place, and the shop is just a simple setup where we can handle the vats and the drying process. We rely a lot on the weather; when the sun is out, the fabrics dry much faster out in the air. Sometimes the smells from the different dyes can be quite strong, but we have been doing this long enough that we barely notice it anymore. People from around Sector 31 know us as the local spot for getting their clothes or fabrics colored. It is not a high-tech operation by any means. We use the same methods we have used for years, focusing on getting the shades right for whatever comes through the door. It gets pretty hot in the workspace, especially during the summer months, but we just keep at it. It is a small, practical business that has become a part of the daily life here in Antop Hill near the temple.
