Bhawani Dyers

We’ve been here at 5 Military Road for quite some time now, just tucked away in the 4th Main of the 3rd Phase. It’s a busy spot most mornings and people know us by the various fabrics hanging around. Most of our day is spent dealing with large vats of color and stacks of material that come through the door. It gets pretty hot in here because of the water being boiled for the vats, and your hands stay stained with different shades of blue or red for days. That is just how it goes when you’re a dyer. We don’t have any fancy office space, just a practical workshop where we get the colors right for whatever the customers bring in. Sometimes it’s curtains, other times it’s rolls of cloth from local shops. People usually find us by looking for the 4th Main sign or asking someone nearby since we’ve been part of this street forever. The floors are usually a bit wet and there’s always a faint smell of vinegar or salt in the air, which helps the dyes set. It’s not a quiet job, there’s always the sound of water running or someone hanging things up to dry on the racks outside. We just keep our heads down and handle the orders as they come. It’s honest work, even if it’s a bit messy at times. If you are walking down Military Road, you will probably see the steam coming from our back area. That’s just us doing what we do.
