Chaitali Gems

Our office is over in the Panchratna building at Opera House. If you know Mumbai at all, you know this is where the diamond and gem trade happens every day. It is crowded, loud, and busy most of the time. We are located in unit 441. We deal with gems mostly. It is a small space, filled with desks, bright lamps, and those little weighing scales. Sometimes the lighting isn't great but we make do with what we have. We spend a lot of time looking at stones through loupes. It is tedious work and your eyes get really tired after a few hours of staring. We see a lot of people coming in and out of the building every single day. It is a tight-knit community here and everyone pretty much knows everyone else. We don't do much advertising. People usually find us through word of mouth or because they were already in the building for something else. M.P. Marg is always blocked with cars so getting here takes a lot of patience. We have been at this for a good number of years now. We handle different kinds of stones depending on what is available in the market. It is not always easy to find exactly what a customer wants but we try to source it. We aren't a big fancy shop with glass displays and carpets. It is more of a workspace where the real business gets done. We keep things simple and just focus on the stones themselves.
