By The Way Restaurant

Living and working in Gamdevi has its own rhythm. Our restaurant is tucked away in the Seva Sadan Society on Pandita Ramabai Road. It is a bit of an old-fashioned part of Mumbai, which I personally like. The Gamdevi Police Station is right there, so it always feels safe and there is always something happening on the street. We’ve had this spot for years. The building is older, so we are always fixing something, whether it is a leaky pipe or a bit of chipped paint. Mumbai rains are the worst for that. When the monsoon hits, the whole street gets a bit messy, but our regulars still show up. They know where we are. We don't have those fancy digital menus or uniforms. It is just us in our regular clothes, making sure things are ready on time. The space is small, but we make it work. Sometimes it gets a bit cramped when the lunch rush comes from the nearby offices, but nobody seems to mind much. We see a lot of the same faces every single day. It is nice to know people’s names and what they usually like to eat without them having to ask. It is just a simple life here near the police station. We keep the doors open and wait for the day to start. It is not a big corporate chain, just a local spot where we do our best with what we have for everyone.
