Bombay Tamil Sangam

Bombay Tamil Sangam is located over in Sion. It has been a central point for many of us for quite a long time now. Sion is a busy part of the city but once you come inside the building it is a bit different. It is not really a business in the way a shop or a restaurant is, it is more of a place where people from the community gather to talk or hold their small events. We have been here in the 400022 area code for many years. The building is older and it definitely has that lived-in feel to it. We do not have a lot of fancy modern stuff inside, just the basic things we need to keep the place running for everyone who uses it. People come here to stay connected with their roots and catch up with friends. It is a lot of work organizing things and making sure the space is available when someone needs it for a meeting or a cultural program. The streets outside in Sion are always packed with cars and people going to work but this place stays pretty steady for us. We do not spend money on big ads or anything like that because the people who need to find us already know where we are. It is a quiet sort of work but it feels important to keep the doors open and the lights on for the community. Sometimes it gets a bit crowded during festivals but we just manage it as it comes.
