If you know Kalbadevi, you know how tight the streets are. Bipin Kapadia Japanese is tucked away at 398 D on the third floor. You have to walk up to room 67, which can be a bit of a climb if you aren't used to it. The building is old and has that specific smell of old paper and dust. It’s a very busy area with people carrying bundles of goods all over the place. Our room isn't very big, but it fits what we need. We spend the day dealing with various bits of business that come our way. It gets pretty loud outside with the honking and the shouting of the loaders, but inside we just try to keep our heads down. We have a small window that lets in some light, though it mostly looks out onto another wall. The wooden floorboards creak a little when you walk across them. We've been here for a long time and the routine doesn't change much. We start early to avoid the worst of the midday heat. Lunch is usually something brought from home or picked up from a nearby stall. We don't have any fancy signs or big displays. It’s just a place where work happens. By the time we lock up in the evening, the market outside is still going strong. It’s just the way things are in this part of town, and we are used to it by now.
